Making Monday Pretty: Strobing Trend July 27 2015

For the last little while the biggest trend in makeup has been contouring, and to be honest, it's getting a little out of control. The latest trend, said to be the "new" contouring is called strobing. So to make sure you stay current on all things makeup related, here is the low down on strobing...

What is strobing exactly?

When you hear strobing you think of lights, which is essentially exactly what strobing is. Rather than contouring your face with both dark and light shades, strobing gently contours your face by highlighting all of the high points. Basically it is like highlighting on steroids for a super healthy, lit from within glow that makes your bone structure pop.

How do I get the look?

Firstly, this is not a glittery look, this is luminizing, so make sure whatever products you choose have very fine shimmer particles. You also want to make sure you start with a smooth base as intense highlighting can exacerbate fine lines and bumps. Start by mixing a small amount of luminizer with your foundation and then use an intense highlighter on any high points of the face - cheekbones, temples, brow bones, just above the eyebrow, inner corners of the eyes, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow and tip of the chin. Tip: to avoid looking oily don't apply highlight all over the forehead, just keep it to right above the brow bones on either side of your forehead.

What are some of the best products?

Our favourite creams to add to foundation are the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors and the new Sephora Radiant Luminizing Drops. Our favourite highlighters are the NARS Multiple Sticks, Benefit's Watt's Up, Charlotte Tilbury's Filmstar Bronze & Glow and for megawatt shine you can't beat theBalm's Mary Lou Manizer.

Have a beautiful Monday everyone!

Making Monday Pretty: Summer Skin Saviour July 20 2015

Attention, attention! We have found our skin saviour! Frank Body Original Body Scrub is an all natural scrub that will not only leave your skin baby soft and but help to heal eczema, psoriasis, cellulite and stretch marks. The four key ingredients in the Original Body Scrub are...

Roasted and Ground Robusta Coffee Beans which have a super high caffeine content which stimulates blood flow targeting cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, varicose veins, eczema, acne and scarring.

Cold Pressed Sweet Almond Oil which is high in linoleum and oleic acids which promotes skin healing and nourishes the skin and leaves it smooth and even.

Vitamin E which is full of antioxidants helping to fight free radicals that cause dryness and fine lines and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Sea Salt which is a natural antiseptic, reducing inflammation, treating wounds and targeting skin conditions.

These four ingredients work together to honestly leave you with the softest skin possible, we can vouch for that! Depending on the results you want, use the scrub 3 to 5 times per week, use as much scrub as you need, rubbing in circular motions and then leave on the skin for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing.

Frank Body is not available in stores but shipping from their website is free and always arrives within a few days! Trust us, with all the skin exposed in the summer this is a must have!

Have a beautiful Monday everyone!

Further Sale Reductions... July 15 2015

Making Monday Pretty: Current Obsession July 13 2015

We had always heard rave reviews about Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powder, but the other day while browsing the Sephora aisles, the liquid/cream version caught our eye and has quickly become our new fave. After primer and before our tinted moisturizer, we apply a dab of liquid to our cheeks and cheekbones, nose, and forehead for a gorgeous healthy, summery glow. Our favourite thing about this illuminator in particular is that it is made with ultra fine light-reflecting pearls which leave a subtle luminosity rather than a glittery highlight which keeps it looking super natural, like a lit from within glow. There are fives shades available making it easy to pick a hue that is close to your skin tone, our favourite is the middle shade opal but we have a feeling we may be picking up another one or two in the near future.

Have a beautiful Monday everyone!

Making Monday Pretty: Hot Weather Hacks July 06 2015

Summer brings heat and fun in the sun, but it can also bring its own set of beauty dilemmas, frizz and self tanner mistakes anyone? Here are some of our favourite hot weather hacks to deal with your summer beauty woes.

1. Use dry shampoo at night. If you know you're pushing it to that second or third day, rather than spritzing your hair with dry shampoo in the morning, do it the night before and tie it up in a loose bun on top of your head. This will give the dry shampoo the whole night to absorb excess oil and when you take out the bun you will be left with soft, subtle waves, and no one will ever know it wasn't freshly styled!

2. Use chamomile tea bags to soothe razor burn. Headed to the beach and forget to get a bikini wax? If you had to shave the area and were left with razor bumps, use chilled chamomile tea bags on the area to soothe and calm.

3. Use olive oil to prevent rust. Keeping your razor in the shower can sometimes result in rusty blades, so after each use simply pour a little bit of olive oil over the blades to keep them new.

4. Messed up your self tanner? Mix baking soda with water into a paste and rub over the blotchy areas to help even everything out.

Have a beautiful, and sunny, Monday everyone!

The Only Summer Dress You Need July 01 2015

Making Monday Pretty: Charlotte Tilbury has Landed! June 29 2015

Great news for all you beauty lovers out there, cult makeup brand Charlotte Tilbury has finally made its way to Canada! This line isn't cheap, but her luxurious products do not disappoint and are worth every penny. We rushed out and got a few things the day it arrived and wanted to let you know which ones we are considering must-haves!

First up is the FIlmstar Bronze & Glow. This is probably one of Charlotte's most talked about and loved products, and we see why. The sculpt side is a cooler bronze shade, but not so cool that it looks muddy when used to define your cheekbones. This colour warms up the face with a satin finish that gives you a subtle glow. To amp up the glow, sweep the gorgeous highlight shade on your cheekbones and for a lit from within J. Lo glow.

We weren't expecting to pick up a blush but we couldn't resist the perfect peachy pink glow of this shade in particular, called Love Glow. All the blushes were beautiful and we definitely plan on picking up a few more shades in the future, especially First Love for those days when you want a more subtle cheek.

Lastly are the Luxury Palette eyeshadow quads which are just so gorgeous to look at and to use. With three slightly shimmer shades, one to prime, one to define and one to smoke, and then a shimmery fourth "pop" colour, this palette is sure to see you from any day look straight to evening. The thing we love most about these is how richly pigmented the shades are and that the sparkly shade, although packed with glitter, has no fall out and stays where you put it, an impressive feat! These can also be used wet for an extra oomph. We went with the warm brown shades in the Dolce Vita quad but we also loved The Golden Goddess and the matte, easy to wear shades in The Sophisticate, both soon to be gracing our makeup tables!

Other notable mentions is her cult favourite Magic Cream which perks up your skin instantly, and her Lip Cheat Lip Pencil in Pillow Talk for instantly bigger looking lips that still look natural.

Have a beautiful Monday everyone!

Making Monday Pretty: Beauty Products to Keep in the Fridge June 22 2015

Keeping things in the fridge might not be the most convenient, but we wouldn't dream of not keeping our food in the fridge to keep it fresh, so why wouldn't it be the same for some of our favourite beauty products? Some things it really doesn't make any difference, but below are a few products or ingredients that could benefit from a little deep freeze.

1. Perfume. We get this isn't convenient for a quick spritz before leaving the house, but if you're like some of us and stock pile your favourite fragrance, or reserve certain scents for certain seasons, so make sure to keep the ones you aren't using in the fridge as the cold will keep the scent true for longer. And the scent that you're using currently, please don't keep it in the bathroom, all the heat and steam from your shower can alter the scent and cause it to go off.

2. Vitamin C. Many anti-aging products contain vitamin C, a potent ingredient to help keep us all looking youthful. Many of these creams and serums can cost a pretty penny and keeping them in the fridge will help keep the ingredients from breaking down and becoming less effective.

3. Nail polish. Keeping your favourite shade in the fridge will help prevent it from getting thick and keep it smooth and much easier to apply. We know some of our nail polish collections are getting quite large, so we just make sure to keep our top 5 shades in the cold.

4. Eye cream. Yes, the fridge will help keep any ingredients and products fresher for longer, but this one is more for the added cooling benefit from keeping your eye cream in the fridge that will help to depuff in the morning.

5. Eyeliner pencil. This won't make your eyeliner last longer, but if you want a really a really sharp point, try sticking it in the freezer for 20 minutes before sharpening for a really defined tip.

Have a beautiful Monday everyone!
