Making Monday Pretty: Embracing Pale Winter Skin

Posted by Hayley French on

We all know tanning is the worst thing you can do for your skin, but we won't lie, we all look better with a healthy glow to our complexion. However, in the winter months, pale skin is unavoidable, so here are a few tips on how to embrace it rather than piling on the self tanner!

1. Brighten up. When we are paler dark circles tend to be more noticeable so make sure to use a light, creamy concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone under the eyes to really wake up that area. If you need a little extra brightening, use a highlighter concealer in a slightly pink tone to really cancel out the darkness, our favourite is the Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen.

2. Cover up. For most of us, the light bb creams and tinted moisturizers of the summer months won't quite cut it in the winter. Redness tends to be exacerbated so switching to a full coverage foundation will transform your skin from "pale" to "porcelain".

3. Use creams. After foundation, use a cream bronzer and blush as they will really melt into the skin and give a lit from within feel compared to layering on powders which will just sit on top of drier skin. Remember with bronzer to only go one shade darker to keep things looking natural, and switch to a cooler toned pink or plum blush rather than the peachy, coral shades of the summer. We are loving the Stila Convertible Color in Camelia for a subtle bronze and Fuchsia for a pink pop on the cheeks.

4. Tint your lips. Adding a natural your-lips-but-better rosy pink shade on your lips will help brighten your overall complexion and make you look healthy and awake. Using too light of a lip colour can wash you out and choosing too dark can make you look even paler due to the high contrast. Both can be a cool, edgy look for a night out but not as easy to pull off everyday! We are loving Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color in Super Strawberry for its universally flattering sheer pink tone and super moisturizing balm like feel.

Have a beautiful Monday everyone!
